Identifies: It immediately confirms Diamonds and Moissanites.
Differentiates: The built-in analog display contains a Color Stone Estimator that separates up to 16 common colored gemstones (such as sapphire, ruby, emerald, tanzanite, amethyst, topaz, jadeite, and quartz). Limitations: Because it relies entirely on thermal properties, it cannot differentiate between natural and lab-created (synthetic) gemstones, as they share the exact same chemical and physical makeup. It also cannot differentiate diamonds from moissanite on its own (for that, you would look at the dual-technology Presidium Duo Tester II which adds reflectivity testing).
